Aegis Buys Digital Solutions Group

Synovate owner Aegis Group plc has agreed to acquire the consolidated Ion Global network from CDC Corporation. Ion is a digital marketing specialist with businesses in Seoul, San Francisco and Hong Kong, and its services include consulting and user experience analysis.

Ion consists of three operations with different capabilities - each will be integrated into existing local and regional operations of Aegis' digital wing Isobar. The Seoul business is its largest and has expertise in mobile, web strategy, site construction, device user interface and graphical user interface (GUI) consulting and design, reflecting Korea's world leadership in mobile technology development. It will keep its name and retain current leader Sun Young Lee. Hong Kong-based Ion Global helps clients with web strategy, site construction, interactive marketing and software customisation, and will be rebranded as part of Isobar's award-winning agency wwwins Consulting. Ion Global in San Francisco will be merged with US digital consulting arm Molecular, headquartered in Boston and offering Internet consulting and user experience offerings. The office will be led by Ion MD Wei-Tai Kwok.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed but the value of Ion's net assets to be acquired is said to be approximately £500,000.

Aegis CEO Robert Lerwill called the deal 'a very smart piece of expansion for Isobar' with Ion's three centres all seen as 'trendsetting hubs for digital innovation.' The group is online at www.aegisplc.com.
