Sporting News Hires Media Research Director

In the US, sports publisher and broadcaster The Sporting News has hired Neil Napolitano as its Director of Marketing Research.

Napolitano joins with many years' research experience, most recently as Market Research Manager at Condé Nast Publications working on Wired, GQ, Portfolio and Cargo. Prior to this, he worked for news publisher Time and Simmons Media. Napolitano has an MA in Industrial / Organisational Psychology from Hofstra University and a BA from St Johns.

In his new role, Napolitano will help Sporting News expand its core competencies, particularly in the area of consultative selling. He will also be creating materials for the sales team to use with current and prospective advertisers.

'We were looking for a research person who not only is a sports enthusiast, but someone who can intelligently and creatively provide data support for our brand positioning, which is more qualitatively based,' Stuart Marvin, VP, Integrated Sales & Marketing at Sporting News told DRNO.

The Sporting News editorial focus is on baseball, college and pro football, college and pro basketball. Now owned by American City Business Journals, the firm celebrated its centennial in 1986. Its web site is at www.sportingnews.com.
