Hispanic/Latino Council to Advise Nielsen

Nielsen has set up a national Hispanic/Latino Advisory Council (HLAC) to guide the company's recruitment, measurement and reporting of Hispanic TV households in the US.

According to Nielsen, Hispanics remain the fastest-growing national segment of the population, with TV households increasing by 4.4% in 2007. Overall, the US Hispanic population has grown 19.4% in the last five years, and it is estimated that by 2050 one in every four people in the US will be of Hispanic descent.

Acting as a forum where representatives of the Hispanic community can share their thoughts on issues that affect businesses and communities, the HLAC will comprise industry, community, and business leaders drawn from across the US.

'Nielsen is committed to pursuing outreach efforts that are as diverse as the communities we serve, in order to ensure that every viewing choice counts in the television ratings system,' explained Catherine Herkovic, SVP and MD, National Television Client Services at Nielsen. 'By providing third-party insight and expertise on the Hispanic community, the HLAC will play an important role in helping us successfully achieve these goals.'

Nielsen has implemented a number of quality initiatives to improve the training of its bilingual field staff, the translations of its materials for Hispanic TV households and its understanding of the diverse Hispanic communities across the country.

In addition, last year Nielsen announced plans to integrate and report the TV viewing habits of Hispanic households and individuals as part of its general TV marketplace ratings (www.mrweb.com/drno/news6972.htm ).
