Marketing and Comms Regroup for Citi

Global financial services company Citigroup (Citi) has announced the consolidation of its global marketing and communications operations under Chief Marketing Officer Lisa Caputo, who becomes Executive Vice President, Global Marketing and Corporate Affairs.

The firm says the change will help to ensure strong, coordinated and strategic management of its communications activities with its external and internal audiences around the world.

Caputo will oversee an integrated global function including external and internal communications, advertising, branding, media, sponsorships, consumer insights and market research, and community relations. She will continue to report to Citi Chief Administrative Officer, Don Callahan.

CMO since last year, she has also been Chief Marketing and Community Relations Officer, Global Consumer Group since September 2005, and Chairman and CEO of Citi's Women & Company business since January 2000. Prior to joining the group, she held senior communications positions with Walt Disney and The CBS Corporation, after a decade in the public sector which included time as Deputy Assistant to the President and as Press Secretary to then First Lady Hillary Clinton. She graduated magna cum laude from Brown University and received a Master's degree in Journalism with highest distinction from Northwestern University.

Vikram Pandit, Citi CEO, says Caputo is 'the ideal person to lead our newly centralized communications and marketing functions, bringing 'superb judgment, strong communications experience and excellent leadership qualities to her new position'.

In addition, Kate James, formerly Group Head of Public Affairs and Strategy for the Americas of Standard Chartered Bank, joins Citi as Senior VP, Global Corporate Communications, reporting to Caputo.

James will report to Caputo and starting in September will be responsible for external and internal communications strategy, media relations and issues management. She joined Standard Chartered in 2004 and moved to the USA in March of last year to become Group Head of Public Affairs and Strategy for the Americas. Previously, she was based in London and worked on Government Relations, sustainability and community initiatives for the bank. She worked previously in corporate affairs roles for Glaxo SmithKline, and graduated from Magdalene College, Cambridge.

Citi has some 200 million customer accounts and does business in more than 100 countries. Its major brand names include Citibank, Smith Barney and Nikko. Web sites: www.citigroup.com and www.citi.com .
