Launch for African Information Portal
Entrepreneur G. Kofi Annan is launching a portal site for African market research and business information, AfriMonitor.
Annan says that over his years in business he has found 'a serious lack of information about the African market' and that 'a product like AfriMonitor is necessary' to help it grow and encourage entrepreneurs.
The site, currently launched in beta form at www.AfriMonitor.com , aggregates information about African business, consumers, economy, companies, and products, as well as information on African marketing and advertising trends; and provides an overview of African consumer and product markets. For the launch, Annan has compiled a 'trend brief' focusing on the growing China-Africa relationship.
The site's news section contains aggregated content from major news engines, split into three categories: All News, China-Africa news, and India-Africa news. Insight, marketing and advertising features are planned. Some reports and briefs will be free, others will require a fee.
Annan's existing activities include consultancy (www.annansi.com ), blogging and trend reporting (www.annansichronicles.com ) and a clothing company (www.annansiclothing.com ).
Other sites offering aggregated and categorised research and business information on a pan-African basis include Cape Town-based Mbendi (www.mbendi.com ), used and referenced by MrWeb for more than ten years.
