GfK Rolls Out Pan Asia Contact Lens Study

GfK Asia has released its first Pan Asia contact lens retail forecast, covering sales in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea and Singapore.

The study gathers data from more than 11,000 stores: 5,000 in Taiwan, around 800 in Hong Kong, 5,000 in Korea, and more than 600 in Singapore.

'With over 30,000 optical retail shops in China alone, GfK's new optical report is as challenging to compile as it is comprehensive in results,' comments Stanley Kee, Commercial Director at GfK Asia. Kee says the firm uses a multitude of local relationships in the region to provide the data.

In the fourth quarter of 2007 GfK Asia began tracking the optics industry in three major Chinese cities: Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou. In addition, the firm is now covering other Asia regions including Seoul, Inchon, Kyonggi, Kyongbuk and Kyongnam.

GfK Asia is based in Singapore, with further offices in India and Japan.

Last summer, GfK launched a new monthly panel to track sales of sunglasses across Britain, and in November, the firm took over the optics panel from Nielsen in Japan.
