IAB Ramps Up Lobbying Team

In the US, the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) has appointed Alison Pepper as Director of Public Policy to focus on legislative, regulatory, and public policy issues affecting its members - including consumer privacy, data and cyber security.

Alison PepperIn her new Washington DC-based role, Pepper will also work alongside IAB VP of Public Policy Mike Zaneis on tax and trade issues affecting the sector.

Pepper previously worked at Experian as Manager for Government Affairs, in Washington, DC. Prior to this, she was the State and Local Government Relations and Public Policy Programs Coordinator at the Public Affairs Council. She received a JD from Georgia State University College of Law and is a member of the Georgia Bar Association.

The IAB opposes new laws that would prevent advertisers serving ads to consumers based on their online behaviour. It recently adopted privacy guidelines designed to give users control over the use of their personal data by online advertisers.

President and CEO Randall Rothenberg explained the need to strengthen the lobbying team: 'IAB is committed to promoting the interactive advertising industry's public policy agenda. This is particularly true at a time when the online advertising industry's efforts to self-regulate are being challenged by ill-informed and ill-advised regulatory proposals that would severely curtail the ability of businesses to market effectively on the Internet.'

Founded in 1996, the IAB evaluates and recommends standards and practices, fields interactive effectiveness research, and educates marketers, agencies, and media companies, as well as the wider business community, about the value of interactive advertising.
