User Vision Opens Multimedia Lab

In the UK, user experience consultancy User Vision has launched what it describes as the first fully comprehensive multi-media testing lab with eye tracking, offering insights to broadcasters, set top box manufacturers, advertisers and content producers.

Through its new Interactive Lounge, the firm will be able to simultaneously test interactive TV (iTV), remote control activity, mobile and the Internet as a single user experience. The service has been developed in partnership with iTV technology specialist Jonathan Marshall, who joins the team as Head of Interactive TV.

Being able to switch between different stimuli such as a TV, mobile phone and computer, in one session means User Vision can capture every move as well as the emotion and psychology of the user's experience in the lab. Clients observing user test sessions are able to view how each participant is using the different platforms, as well as see where their eyes are looking and their fingers pointing as they interact.

The specially constructed lab is housed in the firm's Edinburgh headquarters and has been designed to simulate a comfortable home environment.

Marshall explains: 'This lab brings together a unique combination of technologies to ensure that multi-platform services are tested effectively. This will allow content producers to simulate their services prior to launch, reducing costly changes to deployed services.'

Launched in 2000, User Vision specialises in usability testing, web accessibility, eye tracking, user needs assessments and usability evaluations and also tests response to offline ads, TV commercials, shop layouts and computer games.

Earlier in the year, Danish firm iMotions partnered with User Vision to launch its Emotion Tool software in the UK.
