MySpace and CPD Launch US Election Debate Site
Social network site MySpace and the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) have launched a new web site where viewers can engage in the political process using tools such as a personalized issue scorecard, polling, reportable national statistics and live web streaming.
The web site, MyDebates.org, has been developed for the forthcoming presidential and vice presidential debates. CPD was established in 1987 by the Democratic and Republican parties to establish the way that debates between US Presidential candidates are run.
When visiting the site, users will be prompted to take an 'Issues Quiz' that will assess their position on issues such as the economy, national security, the environment, same-sex marriage, education and healthcare.
Once they've completed the poll, users can see how their values compare with those of each political candidate, and view a state-by-state breakdown of how other Americans feel about these issues.
Users will also be able to download a personalized tool, which can be embedded on a site like MySpace or a blog, to enable them to track candidates' viewpoints on the issues they care about.
Additionally, MyDebates.org will feature video streaming and as the candidates are speaking, 'issue icons' will light up as candidates discuss specific main topics. As each icon lights, users will be polled with short questions, the results of which will be available for viewing afterwards.

MyDebates.org also includes a feature which will allow users to submit a question that may be presented to the candidates during the second presidential debate.
The first presidential debate will take place on Friday, September 26; a vice presidential debate will then follow on Thursday, October 2; and a second presidential debate will take place on Wednesday, October 15.
