Software First for Japanese Quallies

Melbourne, Australia-based research software developer QSR International and Tokyo-based training and tech support firm Hulinks have launched the first dedicated Japanese version of QSR's NVivo qual research software, part of the NVivo 8 release.

QSR announced what it claimed were 'the world's first qualitative research software programs in Japanese', in March last year, with Hulinks helping to convert the company's flagship NVivo 7 and XSight software.

QSR International CEO John Owen says the new release takes things much further, allowing Japanese users to undertake research and analysis in their own language, and giving them access to the software's strong audio and visual capabilities. In addition, for those managing global projects, the release means the ability to work in Japanese but use the same methodology and process as their overseas colleagues - NVivo project files and results can also be shared with non-users via mini web sites. Japanese users will be able to switch seamlessly between Japanese, English, Spanish and Simplified Chinese interfaces and support materials.

Owen says the dedicated Japanese version of NVivo 8 recognizes the significance of the Japanese qual research industry.

Hulinks Chairman Yoshimaro Fujisawa comments: 'NVivo 8 is the only software of its kind in Japanese. Its release will enable our researchers to use the latest and most sophisticated tools in the analysis of important issues like health, economics and social policy.'

QSR International has offices in Australia, Europe and North America, and claims 'virtually every major university in the United States, United Kingdom and Australia' as clients. The company was formally established in 1995 but a predecessor operation launched its first software product, NUD*IST, in 1981.
