Redundant Researcher Sues ICT Group

A man who was laid off when CRM outsourcing firm ICT Group shut down its Erie, Pennsylvania call center without warning, has launched a lawsuit against the firm for failing to give workers at least 60 days' notice of the closure.

Charles Smith, who lost his job as a Researcher when the center closed suddenly at the end of December, has filed a lawsuit in the US District Court of Erie, accusing ICT of violating the Workers Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (W.A.R.N).

According to Smith, this means that all 100 former workers should have received notice, with 60 days' wages and other benefits for the period between December 30 and February 28.

Company officials have said that they will fight the suit. 'ICT Group is committed to complying with all applicable state and federal laws,' a spokeswoman said in a statement. 'We deny the allegations in this complaint and intend to vigorously defend the company.'

Last week, ICT Group announced that it will no longer be providing market research services, and that it will be closing or partially closing six of its contact centers in the US and Canada, and offshoring much of the work from those in Europe and Australia.
