Curtain Up for New Movie Ranking System

In the US, movie community platform Flicketz and research agency OTX have partnered to launch a movie ranking system which combines the influence of critics' reviews with word-of-mouth audience feedback.

The new FanScore system, designed by Joel Roodman and Jack Mansour at Flicketz, uses data gathered by OTX's Motion Picture Group to calculate a single ranking of the best and most enjoyable movies.

Each film's FanScore rating is analyzed through a mix of moviegoer feedback, critics' reviews and elements of that film's box office results. Consumers can then use FanScore to help select movies, and find out about films they may not be aware of or have previously considered.

After all scores have been tabulated, results will be published and distributed through Flicketz.com, and on the firm's FanScore Facebook application where moviegoers are encouraged to rate movies and provide feedback about the films they have seen.

'With the overabundance of media noise and clutter being thrown at consumers on a daily basis, FanScore enables the moviegoer to synthesize the information they need at a one stop shopping destination,' explained Kevin Goetz, President of the Worldwide Motion Picture Group at OTX.

US-based consumer research firm OTX (Online Testing eXchange) has offices in London, Los Angeles, New York, Cincinnati, Miami, and Chicago. Back in 2005, the agency partnered with Simmons Market Research Bureau to create a new way of classifying movie-goers' behaviour and attitudes.
