GfK Bags Travel Monitoring Firm

In the UK, GfK has acquired leisure travel monitoring company Ascent-MI, to strengthen its tourism POS panels across Europe. Terms were not disclosed.

Sarah SmalleySurrey-based Ascent-MI was founded by Managing Director Sarah Smalley in 2007, to provide forward booking information; and to promote an understanding of the leisure market, its size, categories and dynamics, including destination, pricing and product mix.

Data from its LTM (Leisure Travel Monitor), received from both direct and trade channels, offers a monthly roundup of live seasonal performance information for both bookings and departures. Tourism clients can use the LTM to access data on outbound holiday destination volumes and trends, average selling prices and market shares, bookings split by channels, and periods of bookings.

GfK says that Ascent-MI's data and services complement GfK Retail and Technology's existing tourism business, and will allow advanced regional reporting and analysis for the European market. The company will trade as GfK Ascent-MI and will be headed up by Smalley.rtant step for us' says Smalley.
