Edison Dives into the Pacific

In the US, Edison Research, which is best known for its national election exit polls, is to extend its services to the island of Guam in the Pacific Ocean, through a partnership with local firm Victory Communications.

Larry RosinGuam (www.mrweb.com/countries/9guam.htm ) is a US territory with an economy supported by tourism and US military bases. Edison President Larry Rosin explained that with the anticipated military build-up and other changes taking place on Guam, it is the 'perfect time' to bring this type of business to the island.

In the short-term, his company will not be hiring employees on Guam, and local operations will be run from its New Jersey headquarters.

The company has been the sole provider of exit poll information to the six major US news organizations - ABC, CBS, CNN, FOX, NBC and the Associated Press - since 2003. It also conducts work for radio stations throughout the world, as well as studies on consumer behavior, media usage and purchasing.

Rosin said that Edison Research plans to offer media research on the island, which he says is currently an untapped opportunity.

He added that while the local economy may not be up to strength at the moment, the island's expected growth keeps him hopeful.

'Everyone's struggling throughout the world at this point, but I'm not sure you can let that stop you from grasping an opportunity,' Rosin said.

Rosin founded Edison Research in 1994 to provide audience and media research and exit polling for radio stations, TV stations, newspapers, cable networks, record labels, Internet companies and other media organizations.
