New Tool to Analyse Non-Browser Activity

In the UK, Speed-Trap - which monitors and evaluates web site usage - has introduced online analytics software that captures and analyses visitor interaction with non-browser-based applications that run on desktops or on mobile devices.

The system works specifically with the Adobe AIR solution, which was launched in 2008 to enable developers to build standalone, desktop-based Internet applications that run outside the browser on multiple operating systems.

Traditional web analytics packages can only capture activity within traditional web sites accessed via the browser. Speed-Trap has now extended its Dynamic Collection technology to include the ability to capture and analyse the user interaction and behaviour from this new generation of Internet-enabled applications.

The technology can capture all 'events' within the Adobe AIR application, such as selecting a check-box, clicking on an image, entering text, or selecting a tab.

'Up until this point, traditional web analytics packages have been blind to interaction with web-enabled applications that run on desktops or on mobile devices,' explains Malcolm Duckett, VP of Operations. 'This insight was previously impossible to gather, but is vital to help marketers understand if their applications are reaching the correct audience or proving to be of sufficient value to the user.'

Speed-Trap uses Web 2.0 technology to capture and analyse interaction at the user interface - whether through mobile, iPhone, PDA, gaming console, or technology such as Adobe AIR, Silverlight, and Flash.
