New Appointments to Boost Media Measurement Capabilities in Europe
26/5/00

ACNielsen Media International has announced two new senior appointments within Europe designed to accelerate the continued growth of the operation as the global, regional and local leader for media marketing services worldwide.

As from June 1, Charles Fulton is appointed managing director for Advertising Expenditure Management (AEM) in Europe and Emerging Markets. Roger Smith becomes managing director for Television Audience Measurement (TAM) in Europe and Emerging Markets.

Fulton joined ACNielsen at the end of last year, when the company acquired Media Monitoring Services Ltd. (MMS), the leading provider of advertising measurement services in the UK. Fulton originally joined MMS in 1982, spearheading its growth in new industry sectors, widening its monitoring operations to include new media as well as mainstream outlets and overseeing geographic expansion in Australia and Asia. He is currently MD of ACNielsen MMS and will continue to lead the ACNielsen MMS business in addition to his new role.

According to Steven Yung, President of ACNielsen Media International, "Charles is rightly recognised as a major figure within the media monitoring industry and we are confident that he will bring leadership and passion for client service to our AEM businesses in Europe and Emerging Markets".

Roger Smith has held a range of senior appointments at ACNielsen UK, including Director of Client Service and Head of Marketing. Since 1990 he has worked internationally, initially pioneering Global Information Services and most recently as Director of New Business Development across Europe. Recently Roger headed the BARB tender team, rapidly demonstrating a full understanding of the Television Audience Research business.

"During his successful career at ACNielsen, Roger has directed a number of blue-chip client accounts both locally and internationally and has led a series of successful tenders for the European Commission and other government agencies. He has been directly associated with the development of a number of significant business opportunities and has demonstrated the increasingly important ability to lead, mobilise and achieve results across borders" says Yung.

Both of the new appointments follow a decision by ACNielsen Media International's Managing Director Europe, Domenico Ioppolo, to leave the company to pursue a business opportunity outside the company. He has been with ACNielsen for nearly 20 years, holding a number of executive positions.
