According to a new survey from consultancy, Allegra Strategies, the Internet in Britain is fast becoming available in a range of diverse places including planes and trains, cars, games consoles, digital personal stereos and wrist watches.

Allegra interviewed 143 company executives and 2,172 Internet users for its survey. The report found that the Internet cafe market, currently dominated by EasyJet's EasyEverything chain, is forecast to grow by almost 25% a year to 630 outlets and 15,400 Internet terminals by 2002. It also found that 15% to 20% of cafe surfers are new to the Internet.

By the end of 2002, the report predicts that there will be more than 60,000 terminals in the UK attracting 320 million visits a year in Internet cafes, free-standing Internet kiosks and terminals in libraries, shops and pubs. Also by that date, it is predicted that almost a third of the population - some 18.5 million people - will be carrying their own mobile Internet on a device in the pocket or bag.
