Ipsos has greatly strengthened its presence on the Latin American continent through two new acquisitions, Search Marketing (Chile) and Mora y Araujo (Argentina).
Under the agreement with Search Marketing, based in Santiago de Chile, Ipsos will take a 50% equity stake in the Chilean company which ranks third in its market. With revenues of US$2 million in 1999, Search Marketing specialises in media surveys (print, radio and multimedia). It also conducts ad hoc marketing and customer satisfaction research.
Under the second agreement with Mora y Araujo, based in Buenos Aires, Ipsos also takes a 50% equity stake. Mora y Araujo is a major company in the Argentina public opinion research market. Its 1999 revenues reached US$3.5 million.
By 2005 Ipsos could proceed to acquire the remaining 50% stake in both companies.
Latin America currently accounts for about 15% of Ipsos group global revenues through Ipsos-Novaction (marketing research: Argentina, Brazil, Mexico), Ipsos-ASI (advertising research: Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela) and BIMSA (marketing research, media surveys and opinion polls in Mexico).
