SPSS Announces Best Value Solution for UK Public Sector
14/08/00

To help local authorities in the UK meet Best Value statutory requirements, SPSS Inc has launched its Best Value Solution, a combination of SPSS software and services designed specifically for local government in the UK. This analytical solution enables users to easily collect survey data, analyse the data and prepare reports to give local authorities a timely, actionable view of whether they are meeting the needs of the local community and meeting Best Value requirements.

According to Jon Petersen, SPSS UK Sales Director, "Best Value requires local government authorities to make a significant commitment to improving community services, and SPSS is making an equally significant commitment to working with local authorities to create analytical solutions to help them meet these requirements. SPSS has a 32-year history in data analysis, and is the leading supplier of analytical technology in the UK Public Sector. This level of experience combined with our superior and proven analytics makes our Best Value solution the obvious choice for local authorities wanting to achieve best value in an efficient and effective manner. "

Under the Best Value programme, local authorities must consult local people on the services provided, compare their performance with other authorities and compete to provide the most efficient provision of services. The program requires local authorities to publish annual Best Value performance plans that identify each authority's assessment of its past and current performance against nationally and locally defined standards and targets. The authority must also include its vision for future priorities and improvements. Every five years, according to the Best Value programme, authorities must review their services to determine whether they are continuously improving their services.

The SPSS Best Value Solution will benefit both local authorities and central government through:
  • Substantial savings in time and money with pre-prepared questionnaires and analysis routines

  • Easy aggregation of data at a national level through the use of a standard format and data structure

  • Efficient and cost effective information dissemination via Web technology.
