New Enhancements from SPSS
24/11/00

SPSS has launched Verbastat 6.1. Boasting greater compatibility with multimedia data, Verbastat's enhanced capabilities further reduce the cost and efforts in coding.

New features in Verbastat 6.1 include:

  • Multilingual capabilities - because coding can now be performed in several languages, users can alternate between multiple languages when coding surveys, giving researchers more control over international studies.
  • Easy coding of multimedia data - data entry and classification sections now have players for audio and image files, thus allowing for easy transcription and coding of recorded verbatim responses or scanned images of hand-written comments.
  • Unlimited characters in verbatim responses.
  • New editing tools - include keyboard shortcuts, improved categorical tools and capabilities for editing and importing code frames from Word documents.
  • Increased options for importing and exporting data.
  • More flexible reporting tools - now users can manipulate data, including net (grouped) categories, into any format.
According to Serge Luyens, senior consultant at SPSS MR, "The increased flexibility in this version helps Verbastat users work more efficiently. New import and export features make it easier for coding managers to spread work across several coders, merging the files at the project's completion. This enables a larger number of files to be processed by a larger team, giving researchers faster, more reliable results than were available before. What's more, there is no limit to the length of open-ends, so entire verbatim responses - no matter how long - can be included in the analysis."
