Spain is showing one of the highest growth rates in Europe for access to the Internet, although it is still one of the European countries with a low penetration. Nearly 13% of all households currently have connections via home PC, putting an estimated 5.6 million people online in Spain.

In Spain, almost 3.5 million people used the Internet in December from their household PC. The connection time per person during the month was 7 hours and 25 minutes. This was the second highest in Europe, with only Germany boasting a longer surfing time per session, of 8 hours 15 minutes. On average, the Spanish Internet users connected 12 times per month in sessions lasting around 36 minutes and 45 seconds - the longest time spent per session in Europe.

According to Peter Wilcox, MD Europe for ACNielsen eRatings.com, "The response in Spain to our service has been very positive. We are proud to have a client list which already includes leading portals, newspapers, publishers, and consumer goods companies that are already committed to our Advertising Measurement Services, even before local data became available for Spain. We continue to leverage ACNielsen's global strength and the technology of NetRatings, and to make rapid progress towards establishing Nieslen//NetRatings as the global currency for Internet measurement."
