Clickstream offers New Website Tracking Tool
3/3/01

Clickstream, the Internet software developer, has announced the design of its new monitoring system for website traffic. This gives user data on site pages looked at, length of stay and place of user origin. The system can also detail the last time users visited for tracking periods offline.

The Clickstream technology employs client-side data recording. This means that each site’s own web content is capable of monitoring itself. In practical terms, this system allows each item of content to track its own use as appropriate. Unlike conventional server-side or "packet-sniffing" web measurement methods, this client-side measurement can capture each page view. This applies to every page, irrespective of whether the page has been served from a browser's cache, from an ISP web cache or through proxy servers.

The technology has taken 2 years to develop, but can now guarantee a solution that truly does monitor website traffic, as opposed to the server activity monitored by so many others. According to Clickstream COO George Watts, "At present people don't get the measurements they want because they aren't an accurate representation of traffic on their sites."
