TNS Reinforces Indian Presence
12/4/01

Consolidating its presence on the Indian market, TNS has acquired the outstanding 70% of the issued share capital in Taylor Nelson Sofres Mode Private Limited (Mode), a leading domestic market information company. The original 30% holding was purchased by TNS in May 1997.

Established in 1989, Mode has 200 full time staff across 12 offices in India and also offers coverage in neighbouring countries. It has well-established client relationships with both leading local companies and multinationals active in the region. Mode’s activities encompass a wide range of markets including Consumer, Media, IT/Telecoms, Healthcare, Business and Finance and Polling.

Mode’s revenue for the year ended 31 March 2000 was £2.3 million and net assets at that date were £0.1 million. The senior management team will remain with the business.

According to Tony Cowling, Chairman, Taylor Nelson Sofres, "With a population of over 1 billion, India is an important market and we are delighted to have the opportunity to extend and strengthen our operations there. With its significant expertise in sophisticated data analysis and market research related software development, Mode is currently developing software for the Group and we expect to extend this activity. We believe that Mode is one of the few agencies that can effectively and adequately service the subcontinent and its clients. The company is strong in many of our specialist sectors and this is another step in our strategy to develop our sector activities into global businesses."
