Mintel Acquires CIG

Two well known players in the UK business information market have joined forces following the acquisition of international retail and travel and tourism specialists, Corporate Intelligence Group (CIG), by Mintel.

CIG's two major brands, Retail Intelligence and Travel and Tourism Intelligence, will be retained and the company will be based at Mintel's head offices in London.

According to John Weekes, Chief Executive of Mintel, "The main attraction for Mintel has been the skills and expertise of the CIG staff, coupled with an excellent research platform in Europe. It is fantastic to see further world-reputed reports being added to the Mintel portfolio providing a near global information source. These reports will complement the existing UK range and recently launched US reports."

The CIG was formed in 1986 and was acquired in 1995 by Lebhar-Friedman Inc. In recent years CIG has grown to become a leading provider of international retail and travel and tourism information. The current business encompasses the original research and analysis publications as well as more recent diversifications into consultancy, bespoke publishing and conferences.
