First Weekly Data for the UK
20/6/01

Jupiter MMXI has launched its first weekly Internet audience measurement data for the UK.

The company has been measuring the at home Internet audience in the UK since October 1999, and reporting the findings monthly. As the industry standard in Internet audience measurement, the addition of weekly information will allow clients to access the most timely, accurate and comprehensive data on the behaviour of consumers online. Advertisers can use the data to track campaign reach, and companies can understand on a week by week basis how their sites perform, and how consumers behave.

The data shows, during the week ending 10th June, nearly ten million people accessed the Internet from home. Consumers spent on average two hours and 25 minutes online, surfing the net for three days during the week. The most popular categories were ISPs, portals, services and entertainment sites.

Amongst the top ten most popular sites in terms of time spent were two retail sites, Amazon.co.uk, which ranked fourth and Tesco.com which ranked ninth. People were also using the Internet for chat, spending time on ICQ applications, MSN, AOL and Yahoo’s messenger services.

According to Mari Kim Coleman, Vice President of International Measurement, "This is the first set of weekly Internet audience measurement data released by Jupiter MMXI, and over the coming weeks we will be able to reveal site profile and performance trends that up until now we have been unable to view with the monthly report. This industry no longer has to wait a month to track some of the dynamic events that happen on a week to week basis."
