We are situated on 399 of the top 400 High Streets. 85% of the UK population cross our threshold each year. WHS UK Retail has recently been through an Organisational Review which has highlighted three critical areas that are key to delivering future growth for the business. Our Customer Offer is one of these. To ensure we develop a winning proposition we are now looking for:

Retail Competitor, Marketing & Customer Insights Controller
Reporting to the Customer Offer Director, the main purpose of the role is to design develop, and deliver customer, competitor and market insights on the needs and behaviour patterns of consumers and the changing dynamics of the market place to Business users to drive effective decision making.


Main Accountabilities:

  • To design, plan, develop and deliver key performance tracking studies.
  • To manage budget ensuring it is focused on strategic imperatives.
  • To develop insights and interpret trends and feed into relevant decision makers.
  • To source and scope future research and information initiatives to improve customer/competitor market understanding.

Decision Accountability:

  • Budgetary spend.
  • Selection of Agencies.
  • Methodology used for research.

Main Activities:

  • Monitor progress against tracking studies and report on key trends.
  • Plan and manage ad-hoc research projects to influence decision making.
  • Manage the budget for maximum effectiveness.
  • Ensure market data is mapped effectively to the business users.
  • Build relationships with key business stakeholders feeding relevant insight into decision making.
  • Manage develop and coach the team.

Key Competencies/Skills/Qualifications:

  • The standard company management and behavioural competencies.
  • Quantitative and Qualitative, Ad-hoc and Continuous Market Research Skills.
  • Retail marketing experience.
  • Strategic thinking capability.
  • Commercial analytical skills.
  • Ability to drive insights and recommendations from large datasets
  • Expert PC skills.
  • At least 8 years Market research experience.
  • High calibre graduate with Market research qualification.
  • Excellent communications skills.
