Anderson Analytics Gains OdinText Patent

Market research and data mining consultancy Anderson Analytics has received a US patent for the natural language text analytics process used in its OdinText software.

Tom AndersonThe firm was founded by Tom Anderson (pictured) in 2005, to fuse advanced analytics and traditional methodologies with technologies such as data and text mining, and was one of the first agencies to apply natural language processing (NLP) techniques to ad hoc consumer research.

OdinText can read and analyze millions of customer comments and other items of text, in a variety of languages, in a matter of minutes. Used both by researchers and customer service departments, the solution can also be used to analyze social media and web-based data.

Anderson comments: 'The problem with most approaches of text analytics out there is that they are focused on trying to do what humans do best rather than on what computers do best. In our approach, it's not just about unstructured (text) data any more. It's often about 'mixed data', both structured and unstructured, and this approach takes advantage of that whenever possible.'

The tool's natural language process has now been awarded Patent No. 8,473,498 by the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
