Populus Hires GfK Statistician Karsten Shaw

UK research agency Populus has hired LSE lecturer and former GfK Director Karsten Shaw to head up the analytics division of its Business & Consumer Insight team.

Karsten ShawShaw, who describes himself as a 'traditional statistician', joined GfK in September 2005 and stayed for eleven years, working in the Marketing and Data Sciences Team. Before this he worked at Research International and Ipsos for a total of five years. He also spent brief spells at both GfK (Marketing Services) and the London School of Economics in the 1990s and year 2000. He has lectured at the LSE since 2009, on the 'Aspects of Market Research' course for undergraduates in the Department of Statistics.

Populus was the fastest growing insight and research agency in the MRS league tables when they were last published, based on figures for 2014. Co-founder Andrew Cooper is perhaps its highest profile figure, raised to the peerage in August 2014, ten months after rejoining the research firm from No.10, where he had served for two years as Prime Minister David Cameron's Director of Strategy. In February, the firm promoted seven members of staff.

Gary Muncaster, MD of the Business & Consumer Insight team, says of the latest hire: 'We are extremely pleased to be adding such a highly skilled market research statistician to our fast growing business and consumer analytics division. Karsten brings a wealth of experience in producing high impact insight using advanced statistical methods. We are certain that his added expertise will help us to maintain and improve the exceptional levels of servicing that Populus's clients expect'.
