Peerage for Populus Pollster

In the UK, Populus co-founder Andrew Cooper is to join the House of Lords. Cooper was Prime Minister David Cameron's Director of Strategy for two years until rejoining the research firm in October 2013.

A list of twenty new peers was announced today by 10 Downing Street, bringing the total number in the reformed house to a record 850. The twenty also include the likes of businesswoman Karren Brady, retail chief Sir Stuart Rose and Tory party co-treasurer Michael Farmer.

A keen advocate of modernisation of the Conservative Party, Cooper co-founded Populus in 2003, and left in February 2011 to become the first opinion research professional to hold the Downing Street position. He has continued to advise the Prime Minister and is set to take a key data analytics role for the general election campaign.

Since returning to Populus he has worked with corporate, political and charitable clients on the development of evidence-based communication strategies and campaigns.

It's been a busy year for Populus: the firm started a London omnibus service in January; struck a deal with the Financial Times - which will publish its polls in the run-up to next year's general election - in March; and in June announced a 'Future Parliament Panel', combining MPs who are well-placed to retain their seats in 2015 with those considered likely to join the Commons.
