Gracenote Debuts Mobile Video Analytics

Nielsen's entertainment data provider Gracenote has launched a Mobile Video Analytics solution, to help mobile operators, MVPDs, video streaming services and hardware manufacturers better understand how app performance impacts user behavior and attitudes.

Acquired by Nielsen in 2016, Gracenote offers data around TV schedules for more than 85 countries, live scores and statistics for top sporting events and musical data for 'practically every song ever recorded'. Earlier this year, the firm launched a solution allowing Smart TV and streaming device manufacturers who offer live TV streaming services to make their linear and on-demand content more searchable; and it introduced a new music classification system called Sonic Style.

Through its latest Mobile Video Analytics launch, Gracenote says it aims to provide visibility into the quality and performance of the most popular mobile video streaming apps, as well as a better understanding of how app performance impacts user engagement with clients' platforms and those of their competitors. The solution offers in-depth insights into how users interact with mobile video streaming services; reporting performance metrics by wireless/Internet service provider, content type and more. It also uses passive video tests and survey responses to map user behavior and identify the cause of disengagement and churn.
