Oracle Cuts Data Cloud Workforce

Oracle is streamlining its Data Cloud (ODC) unit, with job cuts totalling 10 to 15% of its staff, according to reports.

Rob TarkoffThe business, which pulls in third-party data and analyses it for targeting and insights purposes, was built with acquisitions, including Grapeshot, Moat, AddThis, Datalogix and BlueKai, and partners with firms including Comscore and Survata. According to www.adexchanger.com , it has 'become inefficient, too focused on its declining business selling third-party data'. 'Multiple sources' told the news site on Monday that the company had announced the staff cut, and says it will now focus on better growth opportunities in contextual data, brand safety and measurement, with legacy third-party data business used as a cash cow to fund these categories. An Oracle spokesperson told the site in a statement: 'As our cloud business grows, we will continually balance our resources and restructure our team to help ensure we have the right people delivering the best products to our customers around the world'.

Former Datalogix boss Eric Roza left the unit in April, shortly after it announced it would be phasing out its offer of AddThis audience data in Europe, as a result of the post-GDPR regulatory environment. Oracle had paid between $175m and $200m for AddThis as recently as the start of 2016. It is now overseen by Oracle CX Cloud leader, EVP Rob Tarkoff (pictured), recently joined from Criteo, and is lining up more closely with that business.
