TNS to Close US Call Center

TNS is to close a call center in Indiana, USA at the end of March, with the loss of 128 jobs.

The firm's Custom Research division put in a 60-day layoff notice the week before last, and says the cuts will take effect on 31st March.

Last week, fellow WPP company the Kantar Group announced that its internal operations division is closing a Call Center in Corpus Christi, Texas in June, resulting in 87 redundancies.

TNS became part of WPP in October, and some operational efficiencies were seen as inevitable where the two companies overlap. In January, the UK's Observer newspaper reported that WPP was planning to cut thousands of jobs in Western Europe and North America, following budgetary meetings between divisional heads and CEO Sir Martin Sorrell in November and December - a report denied by a company spokesperson. At the same time, the Observer said the group would consider increasing its headcount in South America, Eastern Europe and Asia.
