Kantar to Close Texas Call Center

February 3 2009

Kantar Operations - the internal operations division for WPP's insight arm the Kantar Group - is to close its call center in Corpus Christi, Texas in June, resulting in 87 redundancies.

According to a letter sent to the Texas Workforce Commission last week, the closure has resulted from a decline in the number of telephone surveys the firm is currently conducting at the center. In the letter, Kantar described itself as being 'under increasing pressure' to be more efficient and competitive in all aspects of its business operations.

The firm will be offering staff 'career transition seminars' and severance packages, as well as training in stress management, debt reduction/money management, resumé writing and interviewing techniques provided by outplacement specialist Workforce Solutions.

Kantar Operations has additional sites throughout the US, and at seven locations in the UK. Last April, the firm closed down its consumer interviewer panel, citing the continuing advance of online data collection as the reason.
