Jonathan Helm, Laurene McCafferty and Stephen DenningEdinburgh-based user experience consultancy User Vision has appointed Jonathan Helm as Business Development Manager, and Stephen Denning and Laurene McCafferty as User Experience Consultants.

Launched in 2000, User Vision specialises in usability testing, web accessibility and eye tracking, as well as testing response to advertising. Through its Interactive Lounge, the firm provides a multi-media testing lab with eye tracking, offering insights to broadcasters, set-top-box manufacturers, advertisers and content producers.

In addition, last summer, the company unveiled a new service to allow global clients to watch focus groups and user tests sessions carried out at its headquarters, live from their own offices.

Helm joins with a career mainly spent in the design and branding industries, and also has extensive digital agency experience. Most recently, he was a Business Development Manager at corporate and brand identity specialist Navyblue Design Group.

In his new role, he will focus on introducing the firm’s services to new contacts, while nurturing and maintaining links with existing clients.

At User Vision, Denning and McCaffery will be working closely with clients to provide a better and more effective experience to their users, by maximising the usability of web sites, mobile phones and services.

McCafferty studied for her PhD in Usability Engineering at the University of Edinburgh, and then worked as a Research Assistant at its Centre for Communication Interface Research, where her research involved the planning and conducting of usability testing involving customers of one of the ‘Big Five’ banks. She has also worked as a Researcher within the consulting department of Ryden, and has a wide range of experience conducting both quant and qual analyses.

Denning completed a Masters in Human Factors in Information Design and has worked as a consultant for more than ten years. During his career, he has held analyst and consultancy roles at PA Consulting Group, and also served as a Research Associate at Bentley University Design & Usability Center.
