Arbitron
June 2 2009

In the US, ratings giant Arbitron has appointed Deirdre Blackwood as Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications, charged with consolidating the corporate communications group, and driving enhanced communications between the firm and its stakeholders.

Blackwood most recently worked as VP, Corporate Communications and Investor Relations with telecoms firm TerraStar Networks. Before this, she was a Director in the Washington, DC office of Burson-Marsteller, and served as Press Secretary for US Sen. John McCain and as a Senior Staffer for former New York Senator Alfonse D’Amato.

She also worked at MCI Communications Corporation and began her career in television production with ABC’s ‘Good Morning America’ and CNN’s ‘Larry King Live’. She is a graduate of Hollins University in Virginia.

In her new role, Blackwood will be bringing together the three units which make up the corporate communications group: marketing communications, PR, and investor relations.

She reports to Alton Adams, EVP and Chief Marketing Officer, who comments: ‘As Arbitron moves in new directions, it was critical to combine these communications functions. Deirdre’s expertise across the breadth of communications disciplines will help drive Arbitron's communications initiatives.’

Last week, Arbitron announced that SVP, Press & Investor Relations Thom Mocarsky would be leaving after 27 years with the firm.
