Where do I get the really big bucks in this industry? Which sectors or methodologies are paying well at the moment and what's the best strategy long-term if I don't want to be jealously looking at my friends in the banking and consultancy sectors ten years from now?

Morgan
says: On the supplier side: Sales & Sales management; and primarily with online research companies. Their commission structure is very aggressive. If you can sell, you are king! Demonstrate your leadership skills and position yourself as someone who should eventually be on the executive team. As your career progresses, there may be an opportunity to eventually run this company or another (if that’s what you want to do). You can do very well staying in a straight sales role. As long as you are performing, you will always have good job security and always be marketable. Lots of opportunity in the online space right now. On the client side: prove that you are not just a researcher but that you can impact the bottom line. Market yourself as a change agent who can save the company money. You may also need to expose yourself to working in different departments, i.e. other marketing functions, operations etc. if you want to eventually become part of the senior management team.
Phil Reeve says: Either in research sales or heavy duty modeling and statistical work.
