I have ten years' experience in 'classical' marketing research techniques, including quantitative and qualitative methods, analysis and project management. More and more, it seems employers aren't asking for these because their openings are for online research and they want different skills. I understand that the Internet will be used for an increasing proportion of MR projects. Here’s my question: Is it an absolute must to retrain / move to Internet research or do you think the dwindling proportion of MR that's not Internet-based will provide me with plenty of opportunity for the rest of my career, or at least the next ten years?

Karen Morgan says:
N0! The market is changing and evolving at such a fast pace that it is essential to keep up with the trends and to expose yourself to new methodologies/techniques constantly. Online research is the future. People who think in the past, stay there. You need to be flexible and able to adapt to change whatever stage in your career.
Phil Reeve says: A large number of firms are doing more internet research but your skills should apply. If you want to be a well rounded professional you need to learn the new things too.
