I'm want to work in the US but don't have a visa / permission to work there. However, I have some good research experience with well-known companies, including one or more companies with US offices and global presence. What are my chances of getting work in the States and what should my first move be?

Morgan
says: Some companies will look at candidates who require sponsorship, however, it has become much more challenging in the past few years. The best way to get access to companies over here is to either move here (!) and interview once you are here or plan a visit for as long as you can and network while you are here. It’s difficult to get a response from US companies when you are overseas. There is a current shortage of researchers with strong analytical/stats backgrounds so if this is your profile, you have a better chance in this current climate of companies being open to sponsoring you. Companies need to feel confident that if they are going to invest this kind of time and money (although you can also offer to pay for the visa), that your intention is to remain with the organization for a while. This is one of their main hesitations. It’s also a matter of some companies just not being educated in the visa process.
Phil Reeve says: Your first move should be to look within your own company to make a move to the US office. Second step is to find other research companies like yours that have office in both the UK and US and contact them.
