ESOMAR Names Leaders for 2011-12

Global research association ESOMAR has appointed Dieter Korczak as President and Mike Cooke as Vice President for the 2011/2012 period, following a recent vote among its 4,800 members in 120 countries.

Dieter Korczak and Mike CookeKorczak - owner and MD of GP Forschungsgruppe Institut für Grundlagen- und Programmforschung in Germany - will replace current PresidentGunilla Broadbent on 1 January 2011.

He has run his own company since 1985, and been an ESOMAR member since 1987. For the past three years, Korczak has served on the ESOMAR Council; before this he was the ESOMAR German Representative from 2001 to 2006.

In his candidacy statement, Korczak said he wanted to prepare the association for the future and make it 'sustainable', following a 'Triple-C-approach', involving change, code and clients. 'I intend to make new and better efforts to bring more clients into the association, to understand their needs better, to produce more benefits for them, and to arrange new network possibilities.'

Korczak will be supported by Cooke, who is currently Global Director: Online Development at GfK NOP, and takes up the role with more than thirty years' experience working in the international research sector.

Previously Vice Chairman of the British Market Research Society, he is a member of the Executive Editorial Board of the International Journal of Market Research, was part of the committee re-drafting the ESOMAR 26 Questions, and is a member of the ESOMAR Online Panels Conference Committee.

In addition, eight new council members have been elected for the 2011-12 period:
  • Niels Schillewaert, Managing Partner, InSites Consulting (BELGIUM)
  • Bruno Colin, Global MD, Technology & Operations, GfK SE (FRANCE)
  • Michael Bendig, Business Analysis - HIV, Oncology , Boehringer Ingelheim (GERMANY)
  • Pravin Shekar, founder of krea (INDIA)
  • Manolo Barberena, President, Pearson (MEXICO)
  • Tatiana Barakshina, Research Director, Bazis Intelligence Group (RUSSIA)
  • Dan Foreman, MD EMEA & APAC, ActiveGroup (UK)
  • Fred John, Senior Business Leader, MasterCard Worldwide (USA).
Broadbent, as past President, will remain on council in an ex-officio capacity for the 2011/2012 term.
