Former Mindshare CEO to Head News Measurement Review

In the UK, former Mindshare CEO Jed Glanvill has been brought in by newspaper industry body Newsworks, to chair an advisory group compiling a brief for a 'future-proof' cross-platform measurement system and approving the appointment of research providers.

Jed GlanvillThe UK's industry audience measurement system covering both national newspapers and magazines is currently administered by the National Readership Service (NRS) - a joint venture between the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA), the Newspaper Publishers Association (NPA), and the Periodical Publishers Association (PPA). Last month, the UK's national newspaper industry announced plans to establish a new cross-platform audience measurement system, and as part of this announcement, the NPA served an 18-month notice on the NRS.

Newsworks agreed to oversee the appointment of a consultant to lead the initiative, and Glanvill (pictured) joins on Monday for an initial six-month period, with a remit to recruit the advisory group from members from the IPA, PPA and NPA; work alongside media advisory firm Mediatique; and consult with the NRS about a future system. Recently appointed NRS CEO Simon Redican said in a statement that he welcomed the opportunity to engage with all stakeholders to 'take audience measurement to the next level'.

Rufus Olins, CEO of Newsworks, comments: 'Jed is a seasoned leader with a hands-on approach and a practical understanding of the role audience research plays for media owners and agencies. The industry is fortunate to be able to draw on his experience and relationships.'
