M Science and Placer.ai Launch Footfall Data Solution

Research and analytics firm M Science has launched TRAFFIC, a solution offering in-depth analysis of footfall trends, via an exclusive partnership with location intelligence platform Placer.ai.

M Science and Placer.ai Launch Footfall Data SolutionM Science provides real-time 'actionable intelligence' to financial institutions and corporations using new and often unstructured data sources, and is a portfolio company of Leucadia Investments, a division of Jefferies Financial Group Inc. Its products include the M Analysis consumer research reports. Its partner firm Placer.ai, launched with $4m in funding just six months ago, combines behavioral data from tens of millions of mobile devices with big data and machine learning methods to track the off-line consumer journey.

Recent M Science launches include a weather analysis solution giving clients data on the impact of weather events on attendance at theme parks, crowds at shopping malls or and footfall at hardline retailers and grocers; and SWIPE UK, a tool giving financial clients daily updates on key consumer spending metrics, including revenue forecasts and cohort analytics. The new service, TRAFFIC, will initially cover thirteen sub-sectors including department stores, grocers, restaurants, resorts & casinos, theme parks and mall REITs. Rigorous checks ensure the quality and reliability of data for companies covered, and TRAFFIC is available on-demand with data updated daily via API or M Science's visualization platform, M Data Viz.

The firms say the combination of Placer.ai's instantaneous view of foot traffic trends and analysis of transaction data through SWIPE allows TRAFFIC clients to anticipate and measure the effectiveness of their marketing campaigns; and will provide deeper insights once integrated with the work of M Science's research analysts. CEO Michael Marrale comments: 'After 3-years of intensive diligence around the footfall space, we chose Placer.ai as our strategic data partner. With the addition of TRAFFIC to the M Science suite of solutions, we are giving our clients the ability to cross-validate among multiple data sources in near real-time'.
