WarnerMedia Names EVP, Chief Research Officer

In the US, media and entertainment conglomerate WarnerMedia has appointed former Nielsen exec Cheryl Idell as Executive Vice President, Chief Research Officer of its Entertainment & Direct-to-Consumer divisions.

Cheryl IdellUntil last summer, Idell (pictured) worked for social media company Snap as Head of US Vertical Measurement, leading measurement strategy and its execution for the firm's advertiser clients. Prior to this, she was Snap's Head of Entertainment Measurement, and earlier she worked for Mindshare as West Coast Lead. At Nielsen, she served as EVP, Client Solutions, focusing on driving revenue growth through development of media analytics and research products, solutions and strategies. Earlier in her career she worked for 20th Century Fox as EVP, Media & Marketing Planning; and she was President of TV ad effectiveness firm IAG Research (acquired by Nielsen in 2008).

In her new role, Idell will oversee the divisions' viewing, content and strategy market research, insights and analytics services; while leading product research and all aspects of research for video streaming service HBO Max. She will report to Bob Greenblatt, Chairman of WarnerMedia Entertainment and Direct-to-Consumer, who comments: 'Cheryl's background in technology and entertainment makes her the perfect candidate to lead our research teams and build an industry-leading research practice that will take us into the future'.
