NielsenIQ Buys Data Impact and Rakuten Intelligence

Consumer intelligence business NielsenIQ has acquired two eCommerce insights firms - Data Impact and Rakuten Intelligence. Terms of the deals have not been disclosed.

Clement ColinEach day, Paris, France-based digital shelf monitoring specialist Data Impact collects more than 60 billion data points, tracking more than 50,000 online stores in 40 countries - mainly across Europe and the US. NielsenIQ says the deal will combine the latter's technology - which provides a 'hypergranular' view of banner and store-level eCommerce insights - with its own retail measurement footprint, enabling NielsenIQ to scale Data Impact's product offering globally.

The acquisition of US-based Rakuten Intelligence comes three years after Nielsen signed an exclusive agreement to combine the former's eCommerce purchase panel with Nielsen's retail sales data. The takeover will enable NielsenIQ to deliver an integrated online and offline solution, underpinned by the company's cloud based Connect platform. NielsenIQ's recently launched Omnisales product is the first integration delivered from this acquisition.

NielsenIQ says the deals will allow it to provide a 'comprehensive view' of the online marketplace, from product distribution to sales. Clément Colin (pictured), NielsenIQ's Head of International E-commerce Measurement, comments: 'We are proud to welcome these two champions into the NielsenIQ family. We will be able to provide a single number for online sales measurement through multi-sourced data - the truth the market needs - and we will also deliver eCommerce execution recommendations with unrivaled actionability.'
