Jeremy Bullmore Dies

Former MRS President and ad industry leading light Jeremy Bullmore has died aged 93, shortly after retiring from WPP after 67 years at the group and its predecessor companies.

Jeremy BullmoreBullmore died peacefully at home during the last week. In November when he retired as WPP NED, friends and colleagues launched a portal called 'Best of Bullmore,' showcasing details about his career over seven decades. He began his career at J. Walter Thompson London in 1954 as a copywriter, and rose through the ranks to become Chairman. Leaving JWT in 1987 he then joined the board of WPP and served there and in other roles at the group for a further 33 years plus. A fuller summary of his career is in our November article.

Informing staffers of the sad news this week WPP CEO Mark Read wrote: 'Jeremy was one of the most admired, loved and cherished people in our industry. For nearly seven decades in the business he shared his intelligence, humor and wisdom with unconditional generosity. He had time for everyone, whether you were a CEO or just starting out in your career, and so many of us who sought advice from him over the years will remember that his incisive wit and analysis were always accompanied by thoughtfulness, sensitivity and kindness'. Read said Bullmore had 'helped to launch countless brands and careers' and also 'elevated the business of advertising as a whole with his depth of insight, forensic analysis and always-original commentary on what we do'.

Bullmore's family has asked that that anyone wishing to make a donation in his name should give to homeless charity Shelter at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/jeremy-bullmore .
