Data Management Firm TileDB Raises $34m

US-based TileDB, which provides open source tools for data management, has closed a Series B funding round of $34m, with which to expand its solution, operations and business reach.

Data Management Firm TileDB Raises $34mThe firm aims to build the next evolution of the 'database', which it says 'consolidates multiple data modalities, reproducible runnable code, and versatile compute, all in one product'. Its structure is built around the multi-dimensional array, which allows it to efficiently capture 'any' diverse data, including the likes of tables, genomics, images, graphs, key-values and point clouds. Users can build and run sophisticated process, workload and query algorithms inside a serverless distributed computing environment.

As a result, the system promises 'faster time-to-insight' via strong performance and easy governance features - along with interactive analysis and collaboration. Current use cases are in Life Sciences, Geospatial and traditional tabular analytics.

Funding follows an undisclosed amount of investment raised in mid-2022, and this time was led by AlleyCorp, with participation from a dozen other investors, and AlleyCorp's Jorge Colindres and Cockroach Labs' Jeff Miller are joining TileDB's Board of Directors. TileDB founder and CEO Stavros Papadopoulos comments: 'To cope with the increased complexity of their data and compute needs, organizations are resorting to building a 'modern data stack,' which is often a set of convoluted data, code and compute tools. This approach is extremely costly, hard to implement correctly, and cumbersome to maintain, due to the disparate tools and data engineering involved. Think of TileDB as the modern data stack in a box'.
