New Funds for Universal Database Firm TileDB

May 31 2022

In the US, database company TileDB has received an undisclosed amount of investment funding, which it will use to accelerate the development of new features and scale its go-to-market functions.

Stavros PapadopoulosThrough TileDB's universal database, analytics professionals and data scientists can access, analyze and share complex data sets - including imaging, video, location data, weather and time-series - with any tool, at global scale. The firm, which was spun out of MIT and Intel Labs in 2017, claims its technology overcomes the constraints of columnar tables, flat files and SQL-only tools, handling all data with a multi-dimensional array engine.

New funding has been led by Verizon Ventures, joining recent investments from Lockheed Martin Ventures, AMGEN Ventures and NTT Docomo Ventures. Kristina Serafim, MD at Verizon Ventures, comments: 'Verizon Ventures is excited to support TileDB as they continue to build out their universal database that easily supports any type of data source, from dense to sparse multi-dimensional arrays, all while enabling the performance of 5G and mobile edge compute applications'.

Led by founder and CEO Stavros Papadopoulos (pictured), the firm is online at www.tiledb.com .
