Calls for Competition Entries and Conference Papers

It's high season for UK conference calls and awards announcements, so if you've done anything you're particularly proud of lately - MR-oriented that is - take note. The Worshipful Company of Marketors wants entries for the first ever marketing book prize, the MRS has called for papers for its 2006 conference, and the IGD is looking for examples of consumer insight.

The Worshipful Company of Marketors (also known as just the Marketors) is one of the modern livery companies in the City of London, with a mission of encouraging excellence in marketing education and practice. The prize, sponsored by Kogan Page, will go to a book on any aspect of marketing published in 2004.

The three independent judges are Professor Merlin Stone, Business Research Leader with IBM, and IBM Professor of Relationship Marketing at Bristol Business School; Professor Richard Elliott, Professor of Marketing at Warwick Business School; and Former Economist publisher David Hanger. Winners will receive £500 and a Marketors medal and certificate, presented by Sir Paul Judge, Master of the Marketors, at the company's annual dinner in October.

The MRS is looking for papers, speakers and session ideas for its Research 2006: Connections conference. Due to be held at the Barbican, London, from March 22nd to 24th 2006, the themes are:
  • Connecting to business: How research connects to business success by contributing to business models, measuring impact, and through client-agency relationships
  • New connections: How new ideas and theories can add real value to market research, and how the industry needs to respond to changing trends and advances in communications technology
  • Connecting with people: Reaching hard to reach audiences, connecting with consumers, and the role of social and political research.
Part of the IGD Food Industry Awards, the Unilever Award for Consumer Insight will go to the the company that demonstrates how it has 'truly understood its customer and translated new consumer insight to deliver an innovative business solution, such as a new product, service, promotional or information campaign'.

For more details of the Marketing Book Prize and a copy of the prize submission form, contact Martha Fumagalli at Kogan Page (mfumagalli@kogan-page.co.uk ). Closing date is Friday 29th July.

MRS Conference ideas should be emailed as a summary in MS Word format, to conference@mrs.org.uk by 9 September 2005. There is more information at www.mrs.org.uk/res06

Details of the IGD awards are at www.igd.com/awards . The closing date for entries is Friday 15th July.
