Acrobat Hires for New Call Centre

Toronto-headquartered Acrobat Research has hired Jayna Smith as Research Center Manager at its newly opened call center in Calais, Maine. The company is also on a recruitment drive to fill between 200 and 250 full- and part-time jobs at the centre.

Smith most recently worked as a Supervisor with the ICT Group before leaving to take a degree in Mental Health and Human Services at the University of Maine. Prior to this, she worked in telemarketing and sales roles with MBNA America Bank and cell phone provider US Cellular. She also has a degree in Business Management and Marketing from the University of Maine.

The Calais call centre represents the firm's first expansion into the US (www.mrweb.com/drno/news7577.htm ). Founded in 1994, Acrobat provides quantitative data collection services for the MR industry from its offices in Toronto and Capreol, Ontario; and in Canso, Cheticamp and Greenwood, Nova Scotia; and a data processing centre in Nairobi, Kenya.

President and CEO Roland Klassen says his company's strategy is to open in small communities: 'Our thinking is employees will be better because people live here because they want to live here. There is a lot of turnover in larger centres such as the one in Toronto where it's harder to keep staff.'

Smith told DRNO that she believes the company will benefit from her strong understanding of the local culture and community. She is currently recruiting new members for the team and says she has been impressed with the quality of applications received so far.

The objective is to build a centre of approximately 75 to 100 CATI stations, and the firm has already hired 30 people who will be trained this week, and hopes to hire 60 more staff by the end of next month.
