Association for Survey Computing (ASC)
October 19 2009

Peter WillsIn the UK, Peter Wills has been appointed Chairman of the Association for Survey Computing (ASC), replacing Laurance Gerrard.

Formed in 1971 as the Study Group on Computers in Survey Analysis (SGCSA), the ASC is a non-profit organization which exists to improve knowledge of and good practice in survey computing, and to disseminate information on techniques and survey software.

The organisation hosts conferences, workshops and evening meetings on industry topics, and publishes a guide on survey and statistical software.

Wills is co-founder of full service agency Snap Surveys, which has offices in the UK, Europe and US, and a staff of 80 worldwide. Earlier this year, he stepped down from day to day management to become Chairman. Wills is also a Visiting Fellow at Southampton University's Business School and is joint editor of the European edition of research handbook, Malhotra’s ‘Marketing Research, An Applied Approach’.

‘It is certainly a very interesting time to be Chairman of the ASC as the research market is moving on rapidly with the take-up of different technologies,’ commented Wills. ‘As the role of the traditional researcher changes we need to be in a position to promote innovation and best practice in survey computing.’

Gerrard, who has stepped down from his role as ASC Chairman after three years, is an IT and business consultant who has spent more than 25 years in the market research industry. His consultancy provides advice on procurement of hardware and software, evaluating suppliers, staff development, project management and policy and procedure review.
