Louis MonierUS-based Proximic - which provides audience interest data to online advertising and publisher networks - has appointed AltaVista co-founder Louis Monier as Chief Scientist, to design and add new functionality to its core technology.

Proxiic is based in Palo Alto, California and provides software which works at web page level to match ads with viewers’ topical interests in real-time.

Most recently, Monier co-founded and served as CTO of Qwiki, a service that converts data for easier consumption on mobile devices. In 1995, he co-founded Internet search engine AltaVista, where he served as CTO and was the firm’s public spokesperson.

He has also held senior posts at Google, and served as Director of the Advanced Technology Group at eBay, during which time he created and led a research group known as eBay Labs.

In his new role, he reports to CEO Philipp Pieper and will focus on research and development for the firm’s pattern proximity algorithm and dynamic category matching engine.

‘Louis is a visionary and a leading authority on web search methodologies, page processing, and is one of the few out there who is well equipped for the type of big data challenges today’s contextual analysis creates,’ states Pieper. ‘Our customers will reap the benefit of his expertise in research, technical execution, and insights from years of bringing scalable, technical solutions to market.’
